I read Anti-Intellectualism: why we hate the smart kids… It is kind of hard to follow in a since. The story is basically about how people are judged by their intelligence. Most of the time the so called “smart ones”, get picked on and degraded by, the not so smart ones.  Many believe that the smarter people don’t have lives and that they are too worried about being smarter than everyone else instead of going out and working. A lot of the time people who are labeled as smarter than most aren’t able to do the same things what is known as normal people because many see them as being different from everyone else. They refer to the Mountain View High School football team winning the Arizona State Championship last year as being the normal people and the people that were part of the Science Bowl, Speech, and Debate Teams also won at this time. These groups represented the nerds. The football team got a lot of attention and praise for their winnings but the other teams like science and debate barely got any attention at all. All because they weren’t part the norm.

As the reading goes on it says that people that are smart really have no social life and really are not popular therefore they are excluded from some activities but some are very popular and socially active it really depends on how they take other people’s opinions of them. I personally believe if you take other people’s opinions personal and let it bother you than you really are not socially active but if you do not let what other people’s opinions of you bother you then you are a person that is socially active. It is also found that you do not have to be “smart” to be able to succeed in life. I never really knew this but some of the most famous singers were high school drop outs like Christina Aguilera and Kid Rock. I believe that the famous people should have to at least pass high school because many kids look up to these people. When the kids see that famous people don’t need to do school the kids also think that they don’t need school.

In my next essay I have do a argument about a certain topic.

Roommate issues and how we are just thrown into rooms we are made to fill out a form of compatibility to help us get along better when in the long run many feel that it is not paid attention to also we should be able to have a say on ours roommates

The mayor of Pittsburgh and how he has passed a bill stating the tuitions of the college students in Pittsburgh can be taxed. This should not be allowed especially because we pay so much as it is. Most of the students here at the art institute have to pay 100,000 tuition already. We shouldn’t have to shell out even more and add on to are already lengthy bill. Many people go to higher educating colleges because they want a better degree not because they have a lot of money because many people are not rich and do not have much money at all. I am one of these people. I come from a small town where there is really nothing that is offered for art. So I went looking for a better college. Pittsburgh had that. I do not have much money at all and I am relying on benefits and loan money to be able to attend here.  Many kids have attended here over the years so why are you taxing us now? I have one solution for this shut off all of the lights in the buildings that are not being occupied or used especially at 2 in the morning businesses do not continue their work schedule until two in the morning if they do it would rise suspicion. Yes granted that the janitor’s maybe working at this time doesn’t mean that they have to keep all these lights on for no apparent reason. Or motion sensor lights. I believe that this will be my argumentative essay

As I begin to wake up and open my eyes, the only thing I see is the slight red glow coming from my alarm clock. I roll over on my other side as I look … It is now five o’clock in the morning. I roll over on my back and pull my body up into sitting position. As I lean back I shiver as my back touches the headboard of my bed. I lean over to get the cigarettes and lighter off the nightstand that is right beside me. Setting the lighter down beside me on the bed, I grab a cigarette out of the pack and place it in my mouth. I throw the pack back on my nightstand and pick up the lighter that’s beside me. As I bring the lighter up to the cig lighting it and taking a couple of drags. Oh what a way to start off the morning, the rush of the nicotine flowing through my system is wonderful in the morning and for that matter every waking hour of my life.

Cigarettes are the only things that keep me sane now days. I love these damn things if I didn’t have them I wouldn’t be anywhere today. O wait that’s right I haven’t gotten anywhere in life I still live at my parent’s house. Of course it doesn’t help the fact that I never graduated high school and work at McDonald’s for a source of income. Hey at least I have a job unlike some! Anyways I leaned over and turned on my light. I uncovered myself and slide down and off my bed. As soon as I started walking I fell straight on my face because of all the garbage all over my room. I finally got out of my room a walked down stairs to my awaiting breakfast of Jack Daniels and Mary Jane. Now that’s how to start your morning off on the right foot. Well After my delicious breakfast I went back upstairs and got dressed. Let’s see what another beautiful day at McDonald’s has in store for me today (sarcasm).

Okay our next essay is going to be about a particular place and the culture surrounding it. I really am not sure on what to write about for this essay I am thinking about doing something with Pittsburgh and then again I was also thinking about doing something with my hometown too if I do a place in Pittsburgh then I am not sure about whom I would interview and if I did my hometown then I have somewhat of an idea of who I could interview.

I think I am going to write something about my hometown in Lyons, New York. I think I am going to choose my hometown because even though I have lived there all my life I really want to find out more. Especially about the arsonist fires that happened awhile ago that hurt most of my neighbors. I always thought I knew a lot about my hometown but know that I look back I really do not. I personally have witnessed one of the arson burning after it was started and had called the police because my neighbor’s barn up the road from me was set on fire. I am very interested in this topic and I believe I can find out more about these arsonist fires though my dad because he is good friends with the guys that were affected by the fires

Some people believed that the fires were the farmer’s fault that they put in wet hay. When wet hay doesn’t spontaneously combust it just molds. But anyways I would like to know more about what had happened to the arson and also how long he had to stay in jail for.  All together there were five plus fires that were set. All I really is that he was charged with five fires even though he set more than that it was only proven that he did five.

I thought about Pittsburgh in many ways before I had moved here. The first thing that had come into my mind would be the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the strength and perseverance of the team. Since the team was strong I figured that the city was strong also. Even though today the Steelers may not win every game they never give up. If the team did give up they would not only be defeated but many Steelers fans would be very disappointed and hurt. It would almost be a disgrace to Pittsburgh because they basically represent the city.

Another thing that I thought of when I thought about Pittsburgh would be the buildings.   Along with every city no matter what city it is there are a lot of buildings and people. I didn’t really know how big the city itself really was but I figured that it was big. Since Pittsburgh is a city there are a lot of people. This is because with a city comes more opportunities for a place of employment and more people come here because there is always a need for more people to do jobs

Since I really never watched television that much I didn’t really know that much about things that happened, except for the things that my dad had told me. So I cant really say that much about Pittsburgh because I live six hours away from there. When I did watch television it was to watch comedy shows or fantasy shows like ghost whisperer and Supernatural. My dad is really into football so that is how I mostly knew about the Pittsburgh and how they had a football team and hockey team, the Steelers and Pens. I also heard of them by the advertisements that they posted on the television on Sundays.

When I moved here for college most of these things were true how the steelers were very well respected and has had loses but has never given up. I have noticed the city is really big. I never knew how big it truly was until I saw it for myself. There are definitely a lot more people here than I thought would be but that is only because I am not use to a lot of people and also all of the noise from the cars and construction. So really there is always some type of noise and is never quiet. But besides that Pittsburgh is a pretty cool place with a lot of opportunities.

When I first moved here to Pittsburgh I didn’t know too much about the city or its surroundings. The only thing that I really knew was that the city was really big and had many large buildings and businesses within the city. As I started to getting use to the city more and more, I wanted to see more of what Pittsburgh has to offer. since I am attending college here at the art institute of Pittsburgh I’m going to be living in this city for awhile so I figured that I should start to understand and know more than I do now which is nothing. Almost once every week me and my roommate go out and explore the city to find new and exciting things either to do, or see.

One night as we were walking around we saw a very interesting place not too far from our dorm. It was very dark out but it was still light enough for us to maneuver around the city because of all the lights here. As we walked down this one street we saw a couple of buildings that really stood out from the others. The architecture around it was immaculate and had such great detail.  This area is now used for a couple of things but mostly for worship and honoring others. When you look at this place in the darkness of the night it gives off a very eerie feeling. The architecture of the two buildings there makes it look really old and creepy. Although people are welcomed to tour this area and look at it at anytime for free, in front of this sacred ground looks almost as if it encased by black steal fencing. It looks as if it is for protection. To keep outsiders from getting in and the things that is inside from getting out. This makes this place even creepier to look at.

Once upon a time this place had once held thousands of people. Many, many important people were here although today not as many are there. Many of these important people has had an impact on Pittsburgh in different ways. This place is also the oldest site that has not been reconstructed can you guess what landmark this?

It’s Monday night after English class. We did a few things in class today. These things were, going over the syllabus, giving the teacher a sample of how we can write, and our first essay that we will be writing, which is a personal narrative. The personal narrative is going to be about a certain time that you had in a particular place and how you got there. I think that I am going to write about the time when I just moved here to Pittsburgh, why I chose to come here and attend the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for Graphic Design and how it was really scary for me coming into Pittsburgh when I saw the surroundings. I come from a town called Lyons in New York. Lyons is in placed almost exactly in between Rochester and Syracuse. Some people might have heard of the basket ball team the Syracuse Orangemen. The scariest thing for me coming here at that time was all of the buildings, how tall they were, and how many people where around here. Im not use to seeing so many people just walking or waiting for a bus. This was also the first time for me seeing so many buses for transporting people places. The tallest thing that I have ever seen before I moved to Pittsburgh would be a silo, which is a storage unit that holds feed for cows. This is because I live on a farm and there is not much around in Lyons though English can be fun at times, I am glad to be out of class. I don’t mind English that much it is just the writing that I don’t like to do. I like to do poems more than anything though. When I do poems the writing seems to end up flowing together more easily than if I was to write an essay on a topic that did not interest me. When I want to write my writing is really good. But, when I do not want to write you can tell because it sounds like crap. Anyways it’s around ten o’clock I’m talking to my roommate about her day in class and what she had to do. Since she is culinary it’s interesting to hear what different things that she had to cook that day. Today happened to be fish. She didn’t like the fact that she had to deal with the preparation of the fish but the end product tasted really good. It made me hungry just thinking about it. Anyways, in a little bit at eleven o’clock I will be talking to my boyfriend and then off to bed.
